Bord Bia introduces Origin Green to World Meat Congress

The achievements of the Irish food industry in sustainable production were in the spotlight at the recent 2016 World Meat Congress (WMC) in Uruguay when Bord Bia presented its progress report on Origin Green to more than 700 participants from 36 countries..

Bord Bia’s contribution informed discussions and conclusions on Global  Trends, Trade Policies, Animal Health and Welfare, Consumer Trust, Sustainability, Human Health and Nutrition and Governance.

The key conclusion of the congress was that meat contributes positively towards balanced nutrition, plays a role in protecting the environment, preserves food security and helps to reduce poverty.

Jim O’Toole, Bord Bia’s Director of Meat, who was elected Chairman of the International Meat Secretariat`s  Beef Committee addressed the congress, giving an outline of  how  Irish producers, processors and government have worked together in implementing the Origin Green Sustainability Programme.
