A Message from our CEO
Bord Bia’s CEO Tara McCarthy outlines the progress made by Origin Green & highlights how sustainable food production will be more important than ever as we plan recovery from the Coronavirus crisis.

What is Origin Green?
Origin Green is Ireland’s pioneering food and drink sustainability programme, operating on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and the full supply chain from farmers to food producers and right through to the foodservice and retail sectors. The programme is the worlds’ only national food and drink sustainability programme, and enables the industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively.

Since the launch of Origin Green, the Irish food, drink and horticulture sectors have made important progress in driving sustainable food production.

During 2019, a further 248 companies were in the process of attending workshops and preparing sustainability plans to become verified members of Origin Green.

4 of the 5 of the biggest retailers are on board along with 11 leading foodservice companies as part of the Origin Green Retail & Foodservice Charter.

Origin Green collaborates with over 53,000 farms and 324 leading Irish food and drink companies to prove and improve the sustainability of the food they produce to meet the evolving needs of global customers and consumers. Verified Origin Green members account for 90% of our food and drink exports and over 70% of the retail market. Becoming an Origin Green member means that your organisation will have the tools to produce food and drink in a sustainable manner now and into the future.
