Key Sustainability Commitments

Raw Material Sourcing

DS Foods evaluates and approves all raw materials to JDS Foods own raw material approval procedure (QP014) and that is in accordance to what is required by the BRC standard. The challenge is to identify all social & environmental impacts within the supply chain to ensure everything we sell is sustainable in the long run. JDS Foods operate under a sourcing code whereby suppliers are only approved after they undergo a strict approval process thus ensuring our high quality management system is maintained. As a member of the RSPO (Round Table of Sustainable Palm Oil) Our target focuses on moving from using Conventional Palm Oil to Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil by 10% usage increase each year. We have set a target of a 60% increase in usage of RPSO by end 2019.

Our main corrugated box supplier to JDS Foods operates under FSC and PEFC certification. The FSC & PEFC are international not for-profit, multi-stakeholder organisations established to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. They are a fully integrated company that recover paper and board to be re-used in their paper mills meaning JDS Foods are supplied with packaging that carries a lower carbon footprint and a lower environmental impact.
Our primary plastics supplier incorporates the use of post-consumer recycled material into their containers. In 2015, 49% of all our raw material purchases were sourced by Irish companies.

Manufacturing Processes

We have set targets for reduction in our usage of Gas, Electricity, Water and waste to landfill.
JDS aim to reduce gas usage per year by 4% per tonne of product produced and achieve a target reduction total of 20% by 2020.
JDS aim to reduce electricity usage per year by 3% and to achieve a target reduction total of 15%by 2020.
We have a target of 25% reduction of water usage by 2020.
