Its passion for all things beer-related is proven by its creation of great taste, coveted by discerning beer lovers worldwide.
Key Sustainability Commitments
- Energy: Rye River Brewing plan to reduce energy consumption by 20% over the next 24 months
- Waste: The company aim to recycle 100% of our waste in the brewery to ensure that we are as sustainable as possible.
The company also give all their spent grain and yeast to local farmer for animal feed
- Water: Rye River Brewing installed reverse osmosis which allows them to brew with distilled water and build an individual water profile for each beer. Phase 2 of the water project will see the company aim to recycle the rejected water and recirculate through the reverse osmosis process further reducing their water waste.
Rye River Brewing chose employee training and helping people with disabilities back into the world place as two areas that they wanted to focus on. Employee training was chosen as a target area as the company culture is one where employees are empowered to make their own decisions, therefore is it important that they are fully equipped. So far, two of the brewers have completed their brewing exams. Rye River Brewing have also trained roughly 20 people in the following areas – forklift license, manual handling and first aid.
The company now employs 4 people with disabilities from St. John of Gods on a 21 hour per week basis, and are working with the organization on securing roles for more people as we develop the visitor centre.
Rye River Brewing work closely with Maynooth University to take in students from the Product Design, Marketing and Innovation course each year. This is an on-going relationship that they have with the university.
Unique Selling Points
What distinguishes Rye River beers from other beers is the quality of ingredients used, in conjunction with its brewing technique.
Rye River builds a perfect brew by treating its water just as gingerly as it treats the rest of its ingredients. Using a reverse osmosis system, the water profile is stripped back allowing the brewers to recreate the water profile for each beer. While a costly exercise, it makes for the very best beer.
The base for every beer is a high quality, traditionally hand-turned barley that delivers a flavour that is unmatched.
Rye River’s brewers have worked hard to form relationships with hop growers and unions in the US and around the world. The company purchases direct from the producers, meaning the freshest and most aromatic hops are used in its beers. It also propagates its own liquid yeast in-house as opposed to purchasing powdered yeast.
