Targets

Our key objectives for the plan are to garner a better understanding of our business and the impact we have on our environment. We see the plan as an opportunity to take a detailed look at our business from a sustainability point of view with the added benefit that many of the measures that we are likely to implement will also deliver cost savings across our business. We aim to reinvest these savings into driving further Origin Green initiatives and enhancing our sustainability profile. Success for us will be seeing the benefits of the work and time invested in the programme passed on to our customers through improved focus on all aspects of our operation resulting in a more streamlined and efficient business that will ultimately benefit our end users. Our main goals are outlined below:

  1.  Sustainable Sourcing
  2. Operations
  3. Health & Nutrition
  4. Social Sustainability

1. Sustainable Sourcing

  • Currently 75% of our purchases come from the island of Ireland.
  • We include Origin Green membership as part of the selection criteria for new suppliers and are in consultation with our current suppliers to make the change to Origin Green.
  • We currently use only Fair Trade coffee and are in the process of switching to Fair Trade Organic products.

2. Operations

  • We have reduced the use of disposable cups and cutlery by investing in additional crockery and cutlery and encouraging staff and customers alike to choose the environmentally friendly option where possible.
  • The amount of napkin waste has been further reduced by introducing napkin dispensers.
  • Segregation processes have been revised and the impact of this is clear in our daily waste tracker.
  • Food production waste has been reduced by revising recipes, retraining staff and improving ordering practices.
  • We have switched to energy efficient bulbs to reduce our electricity consumption.

3. Health and Nutrition

  • Our menu has expanded to include more healthy options for our customers. These changes have been reflected in all signage and marketing materials.
  • We have also introduced more vegetarian breakfast options aswell as a an increased gluten free range.
