About the company

Belview Egg Farm was established in 1978 by Dermot & Nicola Herlihy. The family run business has made radical changes since expanding into packing to become what is today, a modern well-equipped market driven company, employing 27 people.

Originally Dermot started the company with a mere 5,000 hens and a table top grader and now the company has expanded 9 times to deal with the increasing demand on sales and has heavily invested in top of the range equipment. The company now has 19 production houses, 11 in Louth and 10 in Monaghan, with a total of 288,000 hens.

Key Sustainability Commitments

Promoting Local Biodiversity:

Belview are building a plant & flower wall and are adding bee pollinators on their site by the end of 2018. The company has committed to promoting biodiversity by inviting local schools to visit. Belview will educate them on the importance of bees and how they can help them by setting up pollinators in their own gardens or at school.

Committed to Reducing their Environment Impact:

Targets in place to reduce energy by 5%, waste by 5% and water by 2% all per unit of production by 2021.

Focused on Reducing Packaging Waste:

Belview are committed to sourcing 80% of their raw materials (egg cartons) from suppliers with recognised sustainability certifications by 2021. They aim to use suppliers with sustainable packaging consisting exclusively of moulded fibre made from recyclable paper that is biodegradable and can be recycled again after use.
