Burren Smokehouse is the only manufacturing company in Lisdoonvarna area. As such, they play a key part in the economics of the community in addition to supporting the local schools providing work experience and talks. The Burren Smokehouse operates a visitors centre and is committed to educating people on sustainability issues. They sponsor the local athletics club with product linking sports and healthy eating.

The company had a target of reducing energy by a 10% reduction per unit by 2017 and achieved a reduction of 31.44% reduction from 2015 baseline.
