About the company

Meitheal Trá na Rinne (Waterford Oysters) was founded in 1990 in the Irish speaking (Gaeltacht) area of An Rinn to market and sell the premium quality oysters produced by our growers in Dungarvan Bay.

Our factory at Móta is at the end of a small cul-de-sac, right by the sea. Here we grade oysters and when ready for sale we purify them in our state of the art purification facility before packing them for market. Firmly rooted in a rural Gaeltacht area we are an integral part of the community in which we live, providing valuable long term employment in the local area and adding significantly to the local economy.

Key Sustainability Commitments

Committed to Responsible Sourcing:
Meitheal trá na Rinne Teo plan to reduce use of potable water from public supply for non-processing purposes by 2% per annum, 10% by 2022. They will investigate alternative sources of water such as well water and sea water.

Focus on Health and Nutrition:
Commitment to informing the public about the value of oysters in healthy eating by placing/updating relevant information on their website and in any public communications with local media. They have over the years to date aimed to get this message across, especially to visiting groups of young students.
