Portmagee Distilling and Brewing Company was founded in early 2017 by two brothers John and James Murphy who are from Portmagee, Co. Kerry. Stuart McNamara, international whisk(e)y writer-blogger and editor of The Irish Whiskey Trail and IrishWhiskey.com joined the team in mid-2017 and brings his wealth of Whiskey knowledge to complete the team.
Portmagee Whiskey are committed to sourcing 90% of all raw materials from suppliers with recognised sustainability credentials by 2020. Furthermore, Portmagee Whiskey are committed to sourcing 25% of their raw materials from local farmers in South Kerry by 2022, while working with them to achieve recognised sustainability credentials.
Portmagee are developing a solar PV energy source that will power the Portmagee Whiskey Experience.
Portmagee Whiskey will develop a river woodland walk in the local area by 2022, with the aim of helping mitigate against their carbon footprint while giving back to the local community and ecosystem. In addition the company will develop an eco-friendly bee colony and pollinator habitat by 2020.
