Folláin has been producing fresh fruit marmalades, jams, relishes and chutneys with 100% natural ingredients since 1983. The company was established by Mairín and Peadar O’ Lionaird along with business partner Eithne Ui Shiadhail in Cúil Aodha, Co. Chorcaí using traditional home recipes.
Building on this modest beginning, preparing the fruit and cooking in kitchen-style conditions, Folláin has increased its range of jams & marmalades and its manufacturing capabilities to become a state of the art manufacture of a diverse range of premium natural preserves and sauces for both the export and domestic markets in both retail and food service channels.
Features of Folláin’s newly built manufacturing facility include; changing from gas oil to LPG resulting in reduced emissions and a steam condensate recovery system, where heat is removed from condensate to heat water.
Folláin have a target in place to completely eliminate waste to landfill by 2020. Currently there are recycling systems in place on-site for all glass and metal disposal. All food waste generated on-site is composited.
Folláin have committed to planting the surrounding areas of their site with native flora. This will create habitats for birds and pollinators and increase biodiversity in the area.
Local community projects have always been an integral part of Folláin’s business and continuing success; from sponsoring local GAA teams to continuously supporting arts in the Gaeltacht.
